Proxmox Stats

In this project you will run various benchmark tests against your various storage types that you have. By the time you do this project, you should have the ability to create local storage, nfs storage.

Begin by importing an vmdk file. The file is found here. To successfully import this, you need to:

• create a vm (nothing in cd drive), with storage on your nfs share
• wget the above file to your first proxmox node (at your shell prompt)
• Convert the image to qcow2 format
  • qemu-img convert -f vmdk ubuntu.vmdk -O qcow2 ubuntu-disk1.qcow2
• Then copy the qcow2 disk to the disk location that your pre-created vm was pointing to… I.e. Mine was mv ubuntu-disk1.qcow2 /mnt/pve/joesnfs/images/110/vm-110-disk-0.qcow2
• Boot the vm and see if it works. If not, stop it, detach the disk, reattach it as IDE or SATA or ?? and reboot.
• Might take a minute for it to come up.

Add different hard drives to your machine, each with a different storage backend. You should add an freenas(Truenas) nfs drive, and local drive. All should be 1G in size. Run the linux benchmark utility on each of the drives and record your results. Here is how you might run it while using the linux image that you just downloaded.Use the same test settings for all.

Take screenshots of your benchmark results.
